The bulb looking part he sticks in his mouth is based off of an atomizer meant for vaporizing nicotine liquid, and the reason he's coughing so much is that he's inhaling smoke from a rubber insulator inside of the thing that separates the leads on the heating coil.

The heating coil is designed to be sort of liquid cooled by the relatively thin nicotine liquid as it vaporizes the stuff relatively quickly. Hash oil is supposed to be pretty viscous stuff, and I can easily imagine it insulating the whole assembly.

They make vaporizers designed for smoking weed and hash oils and stuff, but these pen style vaporizers are all re-purposed electronic cigarette parts and using them for weed/hash oil makes them function in a way that is probably worse for you than just smoking a joint or out of a normal pipe. They exist because those parts (an eGo battery and a "solids" atomizer) can be ordered at RETAIL from china for about a set and then marked up in a head shop or ebay or other online retailer to or more.

What I'm saying is, there's a whole aspect of stupid to this that is not even obvious unless you know about ecigs.
