Thank you sincerely, Cruz, for fracturing the GOP worse than it already was and making a national spectacle of your idiocy. The Tea Party looks worse than ever.

jangbones - 2013-09-28

I imagine a lot of people are working extremely hard to prevent the Republican party from splitting into two parties.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-28

Which is self-defeating in and of itself.

Together, the Tea Party fucks up everything for the GOP by not letting even any moderate candidates survive the primaries, let alone stand for election. In most places (that is, ones that aren't TOTALLY gerrymandered to hell, and even then it's not a safe bet), even the conservatives can't bring themselves to vote for someone that talks about privatizing every road, banning sex, lowering taxes for the rich even more, returning to the gold standard, and advocating secession.

It's like watching someone insist their house would quit burning down if only the firefighters would stop interfering and more fire from private sources was added to the blaze.

Cena_mark - 2013-09-28

The Tea Party is inept at working at a national, but they are able to function at a local level. They're still a threat.

baleen - 2013-09-28

Cruz currently heads all other contenders for GOP POTUS nominee by over 10 points in all polls. The Republicans really are fucked right now. Their one big advantage is that they raped redistricting in 2011 thanks to stay-at-home dems.

I would not doubt that Cruz would come really close to winning if the economy is not in better shape in a couple years.

Good analysis of the "unions giving Cruz control" debacle:

Paracelsus - 2013-09-28

I think we're looking at a pretty ugly nomination fight no matter how you slice it. Not the more-or-less civil clown parade of last time, but a gory battle over the identity of the party.

RockBolt - 2013-09-28

Saviour of the GOP for the month of: September

memedumpster - 2013-09-29

They'll just have to get used to being a party where one half hates the other half for acting like Republicans, just like Democrats.

Nominal - 2013-09-29

That article missed a perfectly good headline with "Unions on Cruz Control".

Kabbage - 2013-09-28

I love how rolls in with a flat-out lie.

Kabbage - 2013-09-28

*he

Toenails - 2013-09-28

You also misspelled "trolls"

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-28

The "support" for Cruz among conservatives is a lesson in double-think.

He's smart and went to Harvard... but his backers are the people who usually call those working at and attending such schools "elites."
He supports the common American... except he was a snob among snobs, insisting on only hanging out with the best ivy-league law students.
He's just the guy we want as president... except he's a lawyer, which right-wingers go off on just about every five seconds.

It's also amusing (and not surprising) that while everyone who went to school with him calls him smart or clever, it's almost always paired with the word "asshole":

cognitivedissonance - 2013-09-28

Ladies and gentlemen, the next candidate for the presidency.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-28

I smell a Gingrich-style meltdown. He might ride a wave (as he did a few weeks ago) to some kind of popularity during the race for the nomination, but he'll do something dickish and unforgivable to the crazy-base, and that'll let the few mainstream Republicans get rid of him.

I'm not sure who could survive the primary process in the GOP. Rand Paul will have a hard time, too, but I think he'd last longer.

jangbones - 2013-09-29

he's also Canadian

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-09-28

The fact that the Republican party is tearing itself apart would be funny if it weren't taking the entire fucking country down with it.

Toenails - 2013-09-29

Well, when you gotta go, you might as well go big.

Meatsack Jones - 2013-09-29

21 hours of not getting anything done. This should be the apical present day examples of why the government is becoming a laughing stock.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-09-29

The idiots who complain about the government being ineffective are the same idiots who vote for and worship the very party responsible for it being so.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-29

Yeah, the Repubs bitch about waste, yet their privatization shenanigans have cost the taxpayer billions (though since it went to friends and supporters, I doubt they'd call it "waste") and every stupid bill the house has put out that would shred the Constitution if not establish a theocracy over the last several years are a mounting expense they should be ashamed of, but of course, aren't.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-09-30

Perfect description. This guy is the worst kind of self-promoting, exploitative douchebag. The Republican party is full of these fuckers too. I wonder how long before he "filibusters" for a repeal of Article IX of the Consitution, just so he can try (and fail) for the presidency.
