This some NPR shit right here. Terry Gross indeed.

misterbuns - 2013-09-23

I read this as PROJECT DIARRHEA.

her writing stinks.

Gmork - 2013-09-23

Whatever that word is supposed to be, nobody in the world is going to read it as anything but diarrhea.

Damenbinde - 2013-09-23

There's a chart to go with it: http://jenniverse.com/bristolstool.html

Damenbinde - 2013-09-23

Also, it's been awhile since PoE has checked in with JDR. Pretty much the only new output since the Red days has been over a million words of Pony fanfiction, mostly centered on forcibly converting mean nasty humans into sparkle brained ponies. https://www.fimfiction.net/user/Chatoyance

Oh, and one of her wives had a medical marijuana freak out and Stephen built her a new computer. (He did not program her a game to go with it.)

But that appears to be it. She'll be 54 years old in December.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-23

That's a great link, thanks! I was aware that JDR was a brony, but I was not aware that was her new fanfiction haunt.

I tried following the Creatrix's pony output, because ponies, but I just couldn't do it. Do you have any recommendations on where to start? Preferably something short, without a lot of convoluted backstory you need to know? Or maybe something with mouthanuses?

Merzbau - 2013-09-23

I...what?

Do I want to know?

Damenbinde - 2013-09-23

If you want to read pony fanfic, EvilHomer, you're on your own. I imagine her creative output is as dull as it ever was, but now with ponies.

I will say her blog (add /blog to "fimfiction" url) is worth skimming for things like her belief that there are 9 primary colors, her exhaustingly long-winded flounce and return to pony fandom, and her contention that the word "why" is inherently an attack. The funny stuff is buried in between a lot of complaining about how a change in writers (I think) ruined her pony cartoons, but there are gems like the story of a member of JDR's poly commune having her "mind destroyed" by "the most powerful pure hashish oil known to man." (https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/17060/the-mind-is-a-terrible-thin g-to-lose )

EvilHomer - 2013-09-23

Oh Blessed Luna, I couldn't even finish that blog entry on the super-special primary colors only she could see. So the pony fics will have to wait... for now. It's great that Jen's still in top (?) form when it comes to writing horrible crap even *I* can't sit through.

Fun bit from the Stephen Builds a Computer entry:

"One of my spouses, Stephen, and I laid out the components in my upstairs Happy Happy Fun Room. It took a couple of weeks for all of the components to arrive. Building a computer is quite the little puzzle!" (cue photos of Stephen doing all the work)

That poor guy. He's still married to her? And he's been downgraded to just "one of" her spouses now?

baleen - 2013-09-23

Here come the lawsuits.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-23

I love hpw he manages to sound like a pretentious cunt even when he's talking about shitting on his walls.

Blue - 2013-09-23

Yeah, that was the joke. Did you seriously not figure that out even before she started speaking?

EvilHomer - 2013-09-23

Oh, that's right. Weren't you one of JDR's fans?

I don't mean that in a cruel or confrontational way, we all have our skeletons in the closet, but do you really consider this to be "a joke"? Or, more specifically, a well-executed joke, as I'm sure JDR thought he was being riotously funny as usual.

This is just JDR being himself, a pretentious narcissistic asshole with the mind of an angsty 14 year old boy; it's only a joke in the sense that Nick Bravo crying is a joke.

But hey, nice to see she's still around!

Blue - 2013-09-23

I'm trans, and while I, like pretty much everyone that was going though the same thing at the time found her website first I was never really a fan. You may not have noticed this, but some of her writing is somewhat cringe-worthy.

It was her expressed intention to come off as pretentious. You can say she's just making an excuse to be pretentious, you can say she's always this pretentious, but what you just said is that she sounds pretentious even when she's trying to sound pretentious. That's not even really an insult, that's pointing out that she successfully did at least one of the two things she set out to do when she made this video.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-23

So it's the old "sure it's shit, but it's meant to be shit, so wink wink meta irony knowing nod" defense, is it?

Right. I totally agree with you there! Trannychan wanted to come off as a pretentious cunt, and boy did she ever! JDR can't do much with her life, but when it comes to being a pretentious cunt, JDR delivers.

You can take that as an insult if you want, or you can take that as a simple, non-judgmental statement of fact, if you think that being proud of being a pretentious cunt excuses your cuntish behavior, thanks to some convoluted semantic gymnastics routine.

Either way works, so long as we both agree on what she is.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-09-24

lol transphobia

Gmork - 2013-09-24

She? I was aware this human was born with a penis.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-24

Wait, what? ... Transphobia?

EvilHomer - 2013-09-24

SA, I don't know if you were around for the Kokoro Wish/ Unicorn Jelly exhibit, but I don't think anyone hates JDr for being a tranny. Obviously, I can't speak for everybody, but if someone's entire issue with JDR revolves around his being trans, I haven't heard it. Even Tommah, JDR's batshit insane stalker, seemed fine with his trans-identity, and Tommah hated absolutely everything the Creatrix ever said or did.

Now, there were questions about the physical legitimacy of JDR's trans-identity. After all, this was a person who not only lied on the various SoC psych evaluations he underwent before his sex-reassignment surgery, but *actively encouraged* other trans-curious individuals to lie, not to mention offering up his own amateur COGATI test (a test with absolutely zero clinical legitimacy) and misrepresenting it, to an entire generation of early-net savvy trans-individuals, as a scientifically sound tool for self-diagnosis. As a result, JDR's most heated critics *came from the trans community itself*; they viewed him as a misguided eccentric at best, an actively dangerous crackpot at worst. I don't know whether this qualifies the trans community itself as "transphobic", but I don't think it does, and I don't believe you do either.

There's a lot of things wrong with JDR, so when watching this video, please don't focus on the fact that he's a trans-individual, or make the mistake of thinking that his behavior should be excused on account of his (probably spurious) sexual identity.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-09-24

Well shit Homer, usually it's kind of a nice thing to refer to people by their preferred pronouns if they're transgender, even if they are crazy. Also stuff like "tranny" is shitty too because thats a slur against trans people.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-09-24

However, Gmork can just fuck off.

gravelstudios - 2013-09-23

Wait...is this person male? Sure had me fooled.

baleen - 2013-09-23

Post-op.

chumbucket - 2013-09-23

touch of the taint

mouser - 2013-09-23

Favorited.

The New Meat - 2013-09-23

She sounds like the guy from Portlandia.

Monkey Napoleon - 2013-09-30

I think she sounds like a Canada-neutral Scott Thompson.

Gmork - 2013-09-23

Nothing about the thumbnail description or comments is making me want to click on this video. Five stars.

BHWW - 2013-09-23

Well, that ol' JDR was at it again. I wish I could look over the old forum for Kokoro Wish at PoE again, there was some comedy gold in there, like some of the Creatrix's comics about her encounters with the potentially paranormal and unknown (because JDR is just that sensitive and attuned to the world she'll notice these things mere mortals can't), or her incredibly sycophantic fanbase who treated every little mundane thing she did as a sign of how creative she was.

Albuquerque Halsey - 2013-09-23

BHWW - 2013-09-23

I think one of my favorite examples of how sycophantic her fanbase was, that was posted at PoE and that I can still vaguely remember was someone posting a link to her forum where she mentioned deciding to put raisins in her oatmeal for breakfast and you had the usual JDR buttkissers replying to her with, basically OMG!! RAISINS IN YOUR OATMEAL, WHAT AN AMAZING AND EXOTIC THING I'VE NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE! TRULY YOU ARE THE CREATRIX!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-09-23

It sounds a lot like the Penny-Arcade fans, apart from the fact that they used to be funny on occasion instead of whatever it is they do when they're not claiming they're being unfairly attacked or apologizing for their latest opinions on women, minorities, rape, etc.

Albuquerque Halsey - 2013-09-23

"unfairly "

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-09-23

Using a lot more words than necessary to tell a story doesn't make you a good writer.

Meerkat - 2013-09-24

Tell that to Stephen R. Donaldson.
