Our future

Anti-reverse-racism is a codeword for anti-anti-white!

Change - 2013-09-22

Followup - apparently, the little girls play with each other all the time, the fathers of each of the kids involved thought that the twelve year old who posted this acted like a stupid shithead (with the boy's father grounding him for several months without internet or video games for months, because he didn't raise his son to be a shitty racist).

Change - 2013-09-22

"Several months... for months"

Ugh.

PegLegPete - 2013-09-22

Did the kids even say racial slurs? To me this all looked like kids being kids; assholes.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-22

Maybe the racism lies in the fact that the response is an example of Missing White Girl Syndrome?

I don't know, sometimes playing Spot the Racism is hard.

RocketBlender - 2013-09-22

Kids that little don't know enough to be racist, the whole story is that the twins were being mean to the toddler with the 12 year old's coaching, as you saw. He uploaded the video to his Facebook page, which had a false name and a gangster wannabe profile with the title "What happens when white chicks piss off black girls."

He got a few laughs, but for the most part, reception was so poor from people of every color that he decided to pull the video, but he was too late, it had already been saved and re-uploaded by Internet vigilantes, labeled as a racial bullying video. Soon people figured out his real name, and that's when shit began to get real ugly real fast for his family. Even worse, cops got involved after a picture showed up on the same Facebook page as the video of a loaded handgun with the caption "I'm finna kill a bitch."

I don't really think racism played a part in this. It was just a few innocent kids being coached by an older brother who was trying to come off as gangsta. It's really no different from the kids who think saying "fuck" a whole lot while playing online games will convince everyone they're a badass.

PegLegPete - 2013-09-22

Didn't know about the title. I think this is a good opportunity to try to reverse the skin colors here, just to gauge our reactions. Race reversed, the kneejerk reactions, probably even my own, would be like "Maybe kid's parents are prejudiced." We all have a bias. However, knowing how the parents reacted, I think we'd probably still come to the same conclusion: stupid kids.

In the actual case; the lack of hateful slurs, the age/understanding of the topics and knowing the state of pop culture, I think it's pretty harmless, and doesn't really say much about race relations. I think it's safe to say that kids who have racist parents or guardians or are racist (whenever that becomes possible) already know words like "nigger", "jiggaboo", "honkey", "cracker" and all the rest, and are willing to use them liberally when grown-ups aren't around.

Yes, I'd play apologist even for white kids.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-09-23

Really glad to know I'm not the only one who thought the racism from a 12 year old was too shallow to be a huge red flag. Absolutely disgusting, but too early to be really worried about. Really glad to know the parents are progressive about race relations.

Note: without the description, I actually thought they were beating up on a functioning autistic.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-22

It's her own fault for hitting herself.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-09-22

Newsflash: kids are cruel assholes. But naturally there are two different races involved so it has to be a race issue.

I almost think electing a (half)black president made American race relations go backwards a step.

My best friend in elementary school was a Korean kid at an almost 100% white school in (wait for it) ... Portland, Oregon. The other kids would rail on him while saying he had a face that looked like it had been "run over by a steamroller." The school administration made minimum effort to stop it. So se became friends because I stood up for him, lost a tooth in a fight, his mom taught me how to make Kim Chee and he went out for the football team and became quarterback and now works for a very successful videogame company and travels the world. I'm a writer for a (hopefully) successful television show.

Karma's a bitch- let's see where the kids filming this are in ten years and where the girl's at.

I feel that way sometimes, but I remind myself it's more like lifting a rock and seeing all the worms that had been living there all along all this time. We're probably better off seeing it.

Of course, there are still plenty of people who say "I don't oppose Obama because of his race, I simply think he is upp ... I mean, bad for this country". And we're left with only the most indirect evidence that it's not just partisan shitheadedness. But then George Zimmerman comes along and pretty much proves how many racists there are -- I say you can't be a Zimmerman supporter without being a racist (that whole "well of COURSE a black teenager is up to no good" thing), and there are a surprising number of Zimmerman supporters. 45% of Republicans have a favorable opinion of him.

RocketBlender - 2013-09-22

What's the show IZ?

infinite zest - 2013-09-22

The irony is that the cameraperson would have been a hero if he/she (I don't know the context yet) had just stepped in and stopped it.

misterbuns - 2013-09-22

The videos were uploaded with the title "When white people piss off black people"

spikestoyiu - 2013-09-22

Yeah but it's definitely not racist. People yelling "RICK JAMES, BITCH" at a Dave Chapelle show? Racist, though.

Fezren - 2013-09-23

It's not racist (it is) so it's fine right?

If it was my kid I'd be pretty fucking not OK with it regardless.

pyslexic dharmacist - 2013-09-23

Honestly, I wish the kids who picked on me would have videotaped it and put it on a public forum. Then I would have had proof.

Closest I had was the bus security camera with no audio, and my word against theirs.

Species - 2013-09-23

I consider this emotional snuff.
