Errol LeCain had only been working at the Richard Williams studio in London for only a year when he made "Sailor and the Devil" in 1967 under Williams' supervision. He would later go on to design the original backgrounds for the "Thief and the Cobbler" and establish himself as a well-known children's book illustrator, passing away in 1989, aged 47.
Unfortunately, shortly after the completion of this film, there was a fire at 13 Soho Square that destroyed the majority of the film's artwork...
...and that's all I have to say about this cartoon.
