Unfortunately race does play a part in things. Not everything, and certainly not even most things, but to ignore social dynamics that clearly exist is more ignorant than being real about how to deal with each demographic. Still not sure if the judge was right, you know what they say about best intentions.

Maru - 2013-08-10 but he didn't clear the courtroom of everyone in attendance to speak to just the defendants (who are innocent until proven guilty anyway), he spoke to every black person in there as if they needed the same lecture.

fuck this guy, not for sending out the whites but for refusing to acknowledge that the reason he sees so many black kids is not because they commit more crimes but because they get arrested more. also fuck the news station for clearly making their black reporters cover every racism story

Blue - 2013-08-10 They get searched more, they get arrested more, they don't fare nearly as well in court, and they have to deal with the effects of having lots of family members in prison and with criminal records.
Also, medicine for your loved ones isn't free and legitimate work, especially the kind available to felons isn't enough to cover it.

The irony of this video is that it's not reverse racism at all. It's just regular anti-black racism, but it's being reported as if the whites are the aggrieved party.

Seems like a Catch222. He obviously felt like saying nothing was the worst possibility. After that, he had to decide whether or not to leave the white people in the room, knowing it would discredit him with a lot of black people and give ammo to the right wing fascomatic after witnessing "judge uppity gospelin' to the coloreds" next on Fox, or, send the white people away so they wont know how to spin what he said into OBAMA RAPES WHITE CHILDREN, knowing they'd try anyway for being excluded.
I think he did the rightest of a thing not doable rightly.

Maru - 2013-08-10 He seems to indicate that he didn't want the black people to feel self-conscious being lectured in front of white people, but I think what he's not saying is that he didn't want anyone in the room to feel as if the whites were also included in his critique.
I think in general judges should just stop saying weird superfluous things. It'd be nice if they realized they're just another civil servant, and not in a movie where self-indulgent speeches change society.
