This. The about face they did finished off the last bit of respect I had for several news outlets.

There were a few days of stories about the actual spying program, how it is being used, and the ramifications, etc, then all of a sudden it was "who is this Snowden guy, what a sleazy creep and a total traitor"

My thoughts exactly. I really like how in the last few years, all of the news networks stopped even bothering to pretend they didn't have bias.

Glad to see that the NSA spying on the media didn't discourage MSNBC from sucking Obama's dick for more than a week. Rachel Maddow is the worst lesbian ever, she craves the dick more than I do. Her troupe of gay twinks that are gaining popularity are obviously taking notes, too, as their sucking the administration's dick skills have improved markedly.

News is worthless.

There is a surveillance system that can monitor almost every bit of internet traffic. records phone records, even photographs pieces of snail mail, all in the service of a system secret courts that can pass secret judgments on secret laws with secret defendants and secret prosecutors that lead to assassinations, kidnapping and indefinte prison terms. What is there, really at this point, to differentiate the US from a totalitarian state? The apparatus, the set-up, the framework such a state would need is already in place. All that's needed is the will and the desire to use it and you can bet there's people in DC fighting now over which faction, which party gets to handle the reins on this beast.

For some people, Obama has turned out to be quite a disappointment. In reaction, quite a few of them are doubling down on their praise of his administration because they don't like to think they've backed a wrong horse, that he's not any different from any other rich liar who has run for office.

A lot of Democrats sound like any other smug Fox News zombie circa 2004 when it's come to this issue and others, drone strike, the attempts at expanding the reach of the TSA, etc. "Don't you want America to be safe? Do you want a dozen more 9/11s to happen? If you're not doing anything wrong, what do you have to worry about?!?" so we need fleets of drones overhead and the TSA to expand until you can't get on a bus or cross a street without encountering a checkpoint manned by professional gropesters. As well as PRISM (or as it was earlier referred to Total Information Awareness). Even the tech industry has been involved, they've been helping bring this leviathan to life over the years. with Silicon Valley big-wheels talking publicly about how futile the concept of privacy is, with people like Eric Schmidt of Google presenting the already well used "It's OK if you've got nothing to hide. So why worry?" line of thought.

Like any totalitarian state, the state has made totalitarian power the cool thing to strive for, so it's ultimately fucking over itself. America is going to oscillate between rigged fake democracy and pure murder dystopia for the next thousand years or so, until some other power destroys is, probably a country that wont exist for 800 years.
