Fucking the decaying corpse of a once great franchise. "Your Sims will get happy just seeing those wonderful balloons go up!" Fuck you. I'll just fire up SC2000 on doxbox.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-07-01

SC3000 is pretty awesome!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-07-01

Also just from watching this video this game looks frickin awful!!

That looks nothing like a city!! Its a random mash-up of suburban style houses + skyscrapers and massive novelty buildings.

badideasinaction - 2013-07-02

Yeah, it's sad when a franchise is reduced to a knockoff of Facebook _____ville type games, only not being as honest about basically paying to win.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-02

EA had just shelled out shitloads of money for Big Fish and Popcap, so maybe they thought those models were the way to go.

Of course, they didn't actually do anything with either company, and now they're sinking along with the EA Titanic.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-07-02

Reading the _____ up there I instinctively put in a profanity. Fuckville sounds kind of fun really!

misterbuns - 2013-07-01

The condescending, chipper voice is something a malevolent AI would choose to subdue the anxiety of humanss as they are funneled into euthanizing pods.

STABFACE - 2013-07-01

Nailed it.

spikestoyiu - 2013-07-01

Imagine being the guy who has to try and sell virtual hot air balloons for 4 minutes.

lordyam - 2013-07-01

fuck that, he got paid

spikestoyiu - 2013-07-01

So do prostitutes. Doesn't mean it's not tough.

Redford - 2013-07-02

I like how they inexplicably have someone who titles themselves as a "Balance Designer" introduce the video. Like some sort of bizarre bait and switch.

fatatty - 2013-07-01

Seeing the art direction talk from GDC about all the tech they created to allow the immense detail and scale provided in the game made me want to forgive all the backlash for their belly flop of a launch.

This has destroyed whatever goodwill I had for these developers.

Hooker - 2013-07-01

The story of this SimCity has been amazing. It started out when the game was revealed, and it looked so intuitive glossy, and people were going bonkers in anticipation. And then came the worrying info leaks, but whatever. And then the game hit. Limited land mass, on-disc DLC, must-be-online.

EA could sell heroin and lose customers.

Xenocide - 2013-07-01

per syringe.

Oh, you want there to be something INSIDE the syringe? That's going to be extra. And it won't be ready until Q4 2013.

Paracelsus - 2013-07-01

We've also cut the heroin so it won't be as good. Didn't really tell you that. Also, how about this condescending, tone-deaf ad campaign too? Excellent.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-01

Did they ever patch the game to not just constantly have your sims get happier and happier no matter what?

RocketBlender - 2013-07-01

As far as I know, they still need to patch the AI script that made sims take the absolute shortest (by distance) route, no matter what, making single lane roads in a well planned grid massively congested, while huge highways are simply untouched, because it's a few feet longer drive to take an onramp than to use the small roads.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-01

In-fucking-credible.

Of course, were I among the fanbase (and still had hope for a non-shitty game), I'd demand they patch the sims to be the individuals they promised, each with a home, job, etc. instead of this amorphous mass that works and lives wherever there's an open slot.

Raggamuffin - 2013-07-01

Literally trying to sell me a bunch of hot air.

glasseye - 2013-07-01

Virtual hot air!

RocketBlender - 2013-07-01

I knew the DLC for this was coming. I was fully expecting the bigger land masses, water service, and other parts of the missing infrastructure to be sold piece by piece as DLC. This, however, came out of left field.I had zero expectations and they still managed to under deliver. That's fucking impressive in a way.

Baldr - 2013-07-01

I disagree. Hindenburg DLC is remarkably consistent with their other design decisions for this game.

Quad9Damage - 2013-07-01

I can't tell who gives less of a shit, me or him.

Old_Zircon - 2013-07-01

Now, see, if there was a sort of GTA/Saints Row style sandbox mode in this version of Sim City (maybe implemented kind of like possessing a creature in the Dungeon Keeper games) it might be pretty awesome. Particularly if you could use it to rampage though other people's cities without their permission.

Old_Zircon - 2013-07-01

Short of that, why would anyone play this?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-02

Given that the player's choices aren't all that integral to the actual outcome of the "game," maybe this is a simulation of what it's like to play a simulated strategy game successfully.

It's like chess for people who suck at chess but want to see what it feels like to kind of win. Except you lose by playing. It's very meta.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-07-01

I hope that whoever thought up the phrase 'maxoid' gets stabbed in a park in front of hundreds of people and nobody does anything to help them.

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-07-02

The AI couldn't be arsed to step a few feet out of the determined commute path just to reach his bleeding heap anyway.

Quad9Damage - 2013-07-02

I don't know why, but when I was growing up Sim City was always a weird thing for me. In every incarnation I played (SNES, SC2k, 3k, 4), I was never very good at Sim City or really intelligent in general so the games always came to a screeching halt whenever my $ 20,000 ran out and I couldn't do anything else. But before I crossed that threshold, the games were boring as shit. Watch your laid out commercial and residential zones slowly get buildings, listen to your citizens bitch about having no cops or pipelines, run out of money. Yet I kept coming back to them. Maybe it was the idea that one day I'd figure it out and actually get good. Maybe I was punishing myself.

I had more fun with SC2k's urban renewal kit where I could throw down a bunch of buildings for no money, and of course, loading a premade metropolis and clicking 'Fire' 100 times.

Aubrey McFate - 2013-07-08

I thoroughly enjoy the amount of dislikes on this video.

Cube - 2014-07-01

Nobody? Really? Fine, I'll do it:

IT'S NOT A BALLOON! IT'S AN AIRSHIP!
