look at his skin! ladies- eat dog food and wear a giant furry mask that keeps the sun off you if you want to look that good at 50

EvilHomer - 2013-06-09

Yeah, that's nuts, Boomer doesn't look fifty. Mid-thirties at the absolute oldest. Whatever he's doing, he's doing something right.

theSnake - 2013-06-09

You guys must be real prizes

EvilHomer - 2013-06-09

I went gray by age fourteen.

mashedtater - 2013-06-10

i want to make it known that i am as genuinely impressed with how great you look at 50 boomer no matter how snarky the first comment came out

Boomer The Dog - 2013-06-10

Thanks, I was laughing along with your comment. My body is a variant in a few ways, and it could be from the Dog and pooch stuff I do.

I also take after my mom's side of our family in body type, and my grandma got compliments on her complexion at church I remember. Mom had a more lined face, but she spent lots of time at the pool in the days before sun screen.

Hey Boomer, is that true about your hair? The little knob bits represent ears?

Towards the end, she mentions "Gary", and I was like, who? It's weird seeing people refer to you by your human name, it doesn't feel right at all. Are they still giving you a hard time about legally changing it?

Boomer The Dog - 2013-06-09

They are supposed to be my ears, and like Here's Boomer's, what I can make of them by tying my fur up that way. Some people do think I'm a teddy bear or something, it's something that kids have said. Sometimes they flop down more naturally too and look more Doggy.

The idea comes from when I had shorter fur at one time and tied it up on the sides like pigtails, they were tufts that looked a lot like TV Boomer's ears at that time. Later my locks got long and I looked like one of the sight hounds, like a Borzoi, but then I figured out how to loop the fur around to make the knobby ears.

I want to have natural ears without using fake ear pieces or headband ears like some Furries have. I'm used to them now too, when I move my head I can feel them flopping around, feel the wind against them and I know when they touch something, even lightly.

Well, it's a documentary, so they had to use my given name. The people who filmed with me didn't want to, but someone later in production must have, and it does show their idea of the dual identities.

I asked for an official DVD of the show so that I could take it to court as evidence, showing my 'performance' in a public space and that I'm known widely as Boomer The Dog.

Based on past cases, the judge wants to see something concrete and performance related, working as performer Boomer, like a stage name.

It was a case in Pennsylvania, Ravich, she wanted to change to 'Miss R' and the judge asked if she performed or intended to get into show business, or was commonly known by that name. She said no, was denied her change, even though it might not have been for that reason alone.

I got the same question from my judge, and barked no, I hadn't been paid to perform as a Dog. I'm guessing the court is looking for some kind of a substantial meaning to come out of an unusual name change, otherwise it's frivolous to them.

I am curious how you support yourself

EvilHomer - 2013-06-09

Have you ever considered looking into a civil-liberties approach? I know this might sound crazy, but you really do strike me as someone with a legitimate trans-identity. Like a transsexual, only a... transspeciesist? I don't know, I don't think there's any precedent for anti-discrimation lawsuits from a transspeciesist, but perhaps you could find an ACLU lawyer experienced with working for LGBT clients? You could be the first transspecies individual to fight a landmark case for transspecies rights!

I mean, this isn't a stage performance for you. This is your identity, it's who you are, and I don't think the courts have any right to deny you your identity.

EvilHomer - 2013-06-10

Hey Boomer, we can't PM, so real quick - would you mind if I spoke to the ACLU for you? Just to tell them your story and see if it's something they'd be able to help you with? You might have tried this already, but they're usually pretty good about weird cases like this, and they represent people free of charge, so it's not like you'd have much to lose.

Boomer The Dog - 2013-06-10

Hi Homer, I was looking to message you about the show coming on, but realized that this site's software is probably older and doesn't have PM.

I would be interested in the ACLU hearing about it, if it's not too much trouble for you. I'd help with anything you'd need for that. My contact info is on my site, boomerthedog, net.

The show might air again on Nat Geo, Secret Identities, at 6 pm Eastern time, Tuesday June 11. Check to be sure though, the details page says August, but that might be the new season, I'm not sure.

The Boomer segment runs for about 12 minutes and it's the opening one.

EvilHomer - 2013-06-10

OK, cool, I'll see what I can do. I'm not sure whether this the sort of case they'd take, but it never hurts to ask! If they're interested, I'll direct them to your website.

Boomer The Dog - 2013-06-10

Thanks Homer, that would be great! You're right, it doesn't hurt to try all kinds of things, and most of what I've done has been local.

Being a Dog is something that makes my life complete, and it makes me happy. The Dog feeling is always there with me, so it's crazy that I wouldn't get my name. It seems so natural.

Someone was talking about me going on the show, and they thought it wasn't good because it would affect my social life, family and job prospects. What they don't know is it's not a secret identity, and that everyone in my life knows about it already, so having the name wouldn't change one thing with those in my life, and it would even make things better.

Not having the name on my ID does hold me back, because there are things I don't do when I have to show ID, like some Furry events. I know that's my own doing, but it does hold me back.

Thanks again Homer, woof. I know a couple of Homers who are Dogs, Homeless Homer, a mascot for pet adoption, and Homer from Animorphs, the first book, Jake's Dog.

HI GARY

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-06-09

Hilariously, his barking at the beginning made my dog start barking and run around. MAYBE HE IS A DOG YOU GUYS.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-06-09

I just restarted the video after waiting a few minutes and she started barking again.

Boomer The Dog - 2013-06-09

I listened to cassette tapes of Here's Boomer recorded off of the TV, and started to imitate them, until one day I hit it and sounded like TV Boomer, and was like wow, it was like I learned a new language compared to my native one. I was trying lots of things to turn myself into a Dog.

On the actual show, they do have me barking a lot, it's nice, they liked my bark. I might be giving secret codes to your Dog and don't know it.. :)
