When I was around 25 I wrote a script & bible called Hellcops. It was read by J. Michael Stracynzski (who passed because he was developing something similar called "Demon Squad") and by Barry Levinson (who passed because he thought it was impossible fantasy bullshit that nobody would bankroll).

The best thing that ever happened to me in my entire life as a writer was that Rick Schroeder (Silver Spoons) read it and wanted to play the lead. That's pretty much the only thing that has happened in my writing career worth talking about.

These days it needs to be a graphic novel first or something written by Dan Brown to get any script attention. Cool that you at least got Rick Schroeder good for it.

I agree. I think Demon Squad was a graphic novel when Stracynski picked it up. I think i was a 6-7 years too early. Nowadays every channel has a supernatural/high concept fantasy tv show or three.

When I was writing this everyone was cutting their budgets for such ventures.

I always got the feeling that the better done 48 hour film festival entries had the whole thing written and planned out ahead of time, if not filmed and edit. Then they just have to shoehorn in the requirements during the 2 days.

You could partly do some of that, but there are like 12 genres, so you'd have to do some serious shoe-horning.

Even if you only wrote it ahead of time, it'd still be writing 10-12 short films, and hoping that the elements that you have to put in will work.

I've done like 6-7 48 hour film projects. Yeah, some people must definitely cheat. Even if you don't cheat, the competitive advantage from having lots of money, lots of contacts, and drawing the right genre for you team is intense. You wouldn't want to do a 48 Hour Film with concerns about it being a fair competition. You just do it for the challenge.

I've never cheated, though I have planned like crazy for each genre.
