My body is ready for this game, i hope you suckers are buying this. A 2D beat em up in this age is a rare thing to see.

ashtar. - 2013-05-14

Yeah, this actually looks like a fun game. I could maybe do without the painful-twisting-in-every-pose-so-that-both-tits-and-ass-are-highl igted.

RocketBlender - 2013-05-14

If it's half as good as Odin's Sphere, I'll love the fuck out of it, so I'm game.

OxygenThief - 2013-05-14

Now THAT is the kind of trunk space I look for in a late model car.

badideasinaction - 2013-05-14

I thought "Vanillaware" was intended as a perjorative, not as the actual company name. Still, a Golden Axe RPG sounds cool to me...

Triggerbaby - 2013-05-14

Looking past the tits and ass angle for a moment, this game features some gorgeous hand-drawn artwork.

poorwill - 2013-05-14

ass

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-05-14

God that is sexy.

Squeamish - 2013-05-14

DURAGONZU CUROWN

Ghoul - 2013-05-14

The art for this game is nauseating, juvenile, sexist garbage.

Can't wait to play it.

Redford - 2013-05-14

Remember, these are the people who made odin sphere and muramasa:the demon blade. Their previous releases have been 110% quality, and I have trouble believing this one will be anything but.

posertom - 2013-05-14

These people do everything 110%. Muramasa was a sight to behold.

Gmork - 2013-05-14

She's not my type. Neat game though.

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-05-14

Hell and damn yes, I've practically been pining for another Guardian Heroes since Sega stopped making consoles.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-05-14

Fucking shameful. Watching turbonerds and games journalists try and rationalize why the amazon and sorceress aren't horrifically sexist has been more entertaining than the game itself could ever be.

Even the devs themselves called a journalist "gay" for complaining about the oversexualized women.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-05-14

At the very least, these games should be held to truth in advertising. I believe it was Evony whose ads were mostly tits and ass, yet the game delivered no tits nor asses.

zerdzer - 2013-05-14

"horrifically sexist" lol

would it be less sexist if she was wearing more clothes? if she had smaller tits? if she was ugly? if she was big and manly(which she is), or maybe if she was just tomboyish and cute instead?

would it be more or less sexist if she wasn't a large axe fighter? i mean, that's typically a male role, and here's a woman taking that role and you're still calling it sexist, what the fuck

this "sexism in video games" shit is just fuckin sad

Blue - 2013-05-14

If you can't see sexism in video games, particularly this one, you are fucking dumb.

If you don't know what's wrong with this or what would make it better then you don't actually know enough about the issue to have a fucking opinion on it.

You do realize that her features are unrealistic and that it's entirely possible that no one on the planet actually looks like that, right? You just called every woman you ever have dated or will date ugly. The irony is that while you territorial little bastards are defending your porn from the impure influence of women, men that like women, and men that don't really like women but actually date them and don't want their porn to make them repulsive to women you're actually just keeping porn stuck in a niche outside of the mainstream.

Imagine a world where porn titles have the same amount of work and talent put into them that the AAA titles do! Yeah, some of them would have interesting female characters that aren't constantly trying to fit their breasts and their butt into the same frame but what the fuck do you care? You can't play those games with one hand anyway.

poorwill - 2013-05-15

This is harmless fetishistic absurdism in the vein of Robert Crumb or Russ Meyer or whatever. It's so silly and over-the-top that it is offensive to only the most puritanical cardigans. Save the sputtering outrage for the actually deserving targets (of which there are many).

zerdzer - 2013-05-15

"You do realize that her features are unrealistic and that it's entirely possible that no one on the planet actually looks like that, right?"

now, my question is, is there anybody who DOESN'T realize this?

"You just called every woman you ever have dated or will date ugly."

actually i am attracted to women who wear stylish (and preferably modest) clothing, not silly video game character designs that are meant to be over the top. i never once said this was attractive or anything like that, if you'll read my post. i didn't even imply it. seriously, look at the post and let's just chill out.

now tell me, what would YOU change about this amazon character in this silly video game to make it not sexist? i am really curious to know

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-05-15

And practically every male in Vanillaware's games that isn't a punk kid or a scrawny wizard is built like a bank vault made of tumors and fists and walks on toothpick legs. Their artist dials up EVERYTHING to eleven.

"So, we need a fat guy for this scene, and he's gotta look kinda villainous..."
"Fuckin' A, here's a huge bastard with a belly bigger than a hogshead and eyebrows that look like a nest of caterpillars formed a suicide pact!"

"Uhh, okay, we'll get these to the animation team-"

"Make sure they animate his belly shaking! If they need reference, tell them to use a balloon half-filled with old gravy!"

*retching noises*

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-05-15

Please, please tell me that on some level you are aware of the irony of mansplaining to women why they shouldn't object to this.

zerdzer - 2013-05-15

i play video games because i enjoy playing video games, i don't buy video games based on what they look like or if the characters in them are overly sexualized or whatever

i actually really like video games, unlike people who give a shit about any of that "sexism in video games" made up drama, so yeah i'm pretty passionate about it.

i don't really care whether it's still ironic or not, taking into consideration my stated intentions

anyways feel free to respond to anything i said, i would like to hear your response

ecksudee - 2013-05-15

"Even the devs themselves called a journalist 'gay' for complaining about the oversexualized women."

No, no, no, no, and no. That's wrong; you're wrong; please get your information before you try to point fingers.

The blogger -not a journalist (a Kotaku blogger is not a 'journalist')- who was hired because his posts, creating drama and made up problems where there are none, would get the gawker network more hits and more $$$$- er anyway that's another topic.
Anyway, the BLOGGER whined about the art in this game a few months before it's released (INSTEAD OF WHEN THE ART WAS FIRST SHOWN OVER 2 YEARS AGO; seems like if there was genuine concern over this being "sexist" and not about pageviews this wouldve been brought up from the very beginning but it wasn't) just to try to start drama. The artist felt offended that someone could just be so blatantly rude and condemning of something they worked so hard on and of something the blogger clearly didn't fully understand. And furthermore it's ART, something subjective; art that doesn't conform to a specific person's ideals doesn't lose its status as art. As a joke, the ONE LONE offended Vanillaware artist drew art of three piggy-back muscular men showing their bare chests (totally pg) specifically for the blogger and said something like "maybe he'd prefer this". It was pretty funny honestly. He never said the word "gay", because he probably didn't even take any of it seriously and meant the whole thing playfully. I'm sure the blogger has become a victim after this though. I don't actually know. I lost interest because it's Kotaku.

You are so wrong it hurts. You are like a pawn played by this shithole "gaming" website.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

(ZERDZER) ""horrifically sexist" lol

would it be less sexist if she was wearing more clothes? if she had smaller tits? if she was ugly? if she was big and manly(which she is), or maybe if she was just tomboyish and cute instead?"

What the fuck are you going on?

I don't think there's anything wrong with calling this sexist and I don't think there's anything wrong with finding it absurdly humorous in a sex & violence retrospective. Shut the fuck up you giant pansy.

"would it be more or less sexist if she wasn't a large axe fighter? i mean, that's typically a male role, and here's a woman taking that role and you're still calling it sexist, what the fuck"

That same arguement is the same I'd expect from a complete socially broken nerd who would expect that over the top to be sincere or would use it as sincere jerk off material.. MEN KILL ANIMALS WOMEN RAISE BABYS SO OBVIOUSLY IT'S GOOD THAT THEY'RE DOING THE OPPOSITE!! PROGRESSIVE AS SHIT MOTHER FUCKER!!

"this "sexism in video games" shit is just fuckin sad"

You're right, it is sad that people tend to defend any romanticism and sincerety as a form of unbiased entertainment let alone the thought that any women with a personality have to be whiny, emotional sacks of tears. Because obviously any bold sincerity is just a journalist view point.

(ECKSUDEE)

Oh for fucks sake, not this stupid arguement of "ART IS SUBJECTIVE SO PLEASE DON'T TREAD ON IT!" Everything is subjective you stupid faggot. And if the artist's intent wasn't to call that lone whiner gay, then where's the muscular unarmored barbarian? Why isn't any of the male characters remotely effeminate? All I see is some shameless Gundam armor with pecks molded in as if he's so buff that not even his armor can with stand his muscular condition.

Honestly, all these "it's not sexist" arguements are sounding like they're coming from weiners who never got over the concept of being dumped.

This game looks fun, but the story about the artist and you shit bags are really dampening my enthusiasm. Grow the fuck up you humorless shits.

zerdzer - 2013-05-15

did you even read the other comments buddy?

did you not pick up from the context that i don't give a shit if it's considered sexist or not?

and then you go and say this shit

"You're right, it is sad that people tend to defend any romanticism and sincerety as a form of unbiased entertainment let alone the thought that any women with a personality have to be whiny, emotional sacks of tears. Because obviously any bold sincerity is just a journalist view point."

i dunno what you're talking about, but i think you need to play some more video games

Shoebox Joe - 2013-05-15

Oh yes, Zerdzer, I definitely picked up the thought that you didn't care it was sexist by the fact that you're attempting to argue with WHO WANTS DESSERT as to what would make it less sexist with inclusion of "Axe wielding muscle babe is not to be expected."

Zerdzer, you have some good ideas in terms of using history for understanding how roles play out, but you're using them for a cover to be a giant bigot.

Shut up. No amount of questions will resolve what a terrible person you are and what your questions are used for.

Pillager - 2013-05-15

Yep, games just aren't politically correct.

World's going to hell. We'll be seeing Ostrogoths at the gates, I reckon.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-05-14

It looks like Golden Axe with modern technology. Will definitely buy this. I want this game to be a huge success just to piss all the whining feminists off.

zerdzer - 2013-05-14

lol

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-05-14

Last night, I went to a strip club for the very first time, and the DD was that breed of progressive feminist that gets angry if you DON'T eyefuck the strippers. We wound up getting into a long, tedious debate over whether or not it's patronizing to feel sorry for some (not all) strippers. This spilled over into the next bar, and in the midst of what was rapidly devolving into a shouting match, Ron Jeremy approached our table and began hitting on the girl I was roaring at. Yes, that Ron Jeremy. And I was so drunk I actually sent him away, and she responded with "Oh, so a MALE porn star doesn't need to be protected, but those women do?"

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-05-14

also hahahaha those boobs are too big

chumbucket - 2013-05-15

Dragon's Asscrack

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-05-15
