This is what children of the 70s and 80s heard within five seconds of the MASH theme kicking in.

Quad9Damage - 2013-04-23

For me it was Matlock. And Soul Train.

Mine were Dallas and the Action News theme.

My hatred for Soul Train is solely on the position that it signaled the end of cartoons for the day. Unless I wanted to switch over to Cartoon Express and watch GoBots or MASK.

I never got that for MASH and I was a child of the 80s. I loved it as a kid and think its boring as hell as an adult.

I would go into complete zone out mode and read when adults watched Moonlighting, or pretty much any generic 80s romance and/or law show. And Murder, She Wrote. Murder She Wrote was like old lady crack.

Agreed Murder She Wrote was a total sleepfest. I also recall parts of the Mike Douglas Show being completely uninteresting. I stuck around for the Osmonds show because of mesmerizing teeth.

Yeah, Soul Train marked the end of the cartoons and the start of Saturday afternoon—nothing but boring-as-shit programming for the remainder of the day. In my socially retarded, zombie childhood existence, that meant a void that could only be filled with Super Nintendo, reading or homework.

Matlock would be on during weekdays whenever I stayed home sick from school. Fucking Matlock or daytime soaps, representing the world that existed beyond the hell of my public schooling. I almost preferred math class.

And I never figured out if I was a child of the 80s or 90s. I was born in '84, but I don't remember most of the 80s. I did most of my growing up and memory collecting in the 90s.

What I dig most about this is how the newscaster keeps the same tone and inflection. "I am talking to you in the same manner, but you don't give a shit what I have to say."
