I think they should have tried to use the original opening instead of making a clip show. That's just my opinion.

MrBuddy - 2013-04-02

[Not sarcastic] Yes, it looks kind of lazily thrown together to save time and money doesn't it?

M-DEEM - 2013-04-02

GOOD THING WE GOT THAT ALL SORTED OUT

[SARCASTIC]

RocketBlender - 2013-04-02

Those that know; isn't this significantly longer than the English intro?

freedoom - 2013-04-02

Yes, yes it is. but there's some rule in japanese television that states if a show has an intro it must be a minute and a half long.

Macho Nacho - 2013-04-02

The Closing is also long too and from what I've read they cut about 3 minutes from the actual show. Not a lot of the Japanese fans are happy about it.

Xenocide - 2013-04-02

Pretty much every Japanese TV network and animation studio is owned by a multi-media conglomerate these days. So when it comes time for you to make an intro for your new show, you call up your company's music division and ask them to send over whatever new single they want to promote that month. Then just cut it down to 90 seconds, time some animation to it, and congratulate yourself, because you just cross-marketed to children!

In exchange, the music division will require whatever manufactured pop group performed the single to hype your new show at all their concerts and appearances.

Because My Little Pony wasn't commercial enough before.

Cena_mark - 2013-04-02

Its about FRIENDSHIP! AND MAGIC!

RocketBlender - 2013-04-02

Freedoom; When I say this, I am being completely nonsarcastic.

Is that an actual rule, or a joke? If it were any other country, I would assume a joke. I just can't be sure with Japan.

Cena_mark - 2013-04-02

I doubt its a rule. I think the reason for long Japanese intros is the reason Xenocide explained. Its about cross promoting the music label. In Japan people still buy music legally.

RocketBlender - 2013-04-03

Weird, normally they're ahead of the times!

I'm not sorry for that one. That one was solid gold.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-02

It's been more than fifty years since the glorious days when Walt Disney and Douglas MacArthur strode triumphant over the earth. Some people said it was over, said we'd never see those days return, said us gaijin were crazy for keeping the flame alive in our hearts all this time, but oh. Oh, they were wrong.

We're about to make Japan our cartoon bitch again. U S A! U S A!

badideasinaction - 2013-04-02

Five stars for evil because I know I'm going to be hearing this endlessly at every convention I attend or staff.

Hooker - 2013-04-02

Who cares?

Wander - 2013-04-02

I'm with you.

Mancakes - 2013-04-02

Finally our resident weeb can watch this mediocre slop.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-04-02

Can anyone confirm if this is real? I'm only skeptical because it was uploaded on April Fools Day, the channel it's uploaded on (mlpjapan) was created the same day, it's already had copyright claims against it, this would be really easy for anyone with Adobe Premiere to edit, and the quality is way too good.

Assuming it is real, I like how it looks like it was intentionally edited into a stereotypical anime opening by someone who wanted to make a "what would MLP be like if it was anime" type opening.

memedumpster - 2013-04-02

What got me most about this was the perfect Japanese "twice as many notes per measure as other countries" music.

Unmerciful Crushing Force - 2013-04-02

Yeah. Compared to the hack job that was the Japanese Powerpuff Girls intro (look it up, it's super lazy) and the fact that there is no credit for who sang the opening theme, there is reason for suspicion.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-04-02

All the press releases and promotional material were just part of the prank.

I remember people suspecting an April Fool's prank back when they released the anime remake of Powerpuff Girls.

Crunchy Frog - 2013-04-02

Yes, this is for real. Here's the video of episode one, complete with nerd commentary in both English and Japanese:

"This Sparkling Season" was the best episode of Dream On ever.
