The steel industry went belly up and all they have left is their high school football team. What a sad, racist, redneck pit.

kingarthur - 2013-03-19

Replace steel with cotton and congratulations! You've just figured out high school in the South and the SEC.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-03-19

Only fools use twitter.

Pillager - 2013-03-19

Do we have a 'Slut shaming' tag?

Prickly Pete - 2013-03-19

Puke.

VoilaIntruder - 2013-03-19

As much as I fucking hate the song, Kiss' "Room Service" is just about the best worst soundtrack for these idiots.

"In my home town, I'm hangin' 'round
With all the ladies treatin' me real good
A sweet sixteen lookin' hot and mean says
I wish you would

But just as I'm about to tell her 'Yes, I think I can'
I see her dad, he's getting mad
All the time he knows that I'm in need of

Room service, baby I could use a meal"

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-19

There's a whole lotta date rape in those early Kiss songs.

Binro the Heretic - 2013-03-19

My faith in humanity is already hanging by a thread.

I'm just going to give you the stars and not watch this, okay?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-19

It's nice to see a few of these jerk-offs had the shame to delete their twitter accounts. One actually apologized on his Tumblr.

If only politicians and corporate types had a sense of shame as well...

Vaidency - 2013-03-19

These people really do believe that violent sexual assault is in the same category of law breaking as speeding or software piracy: technically illegal but you can still expect most people to do it from time to time if given the opportunity.

ashtar. - 2013-03-19

I've been astounded by internet misogyny levels lately. It's everywhere, and it seems more 'serious' than it used to be. Is it just something I haven't been aware of, or is it getting much worse lately?

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-03-19

I've noticed racism being on the rise as well.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-19

Yeah, it's gotten pretty bad the past few years.

EvilHomer - 2013-03-19

I'm usually all for misogny, but this is a bit much even for me.

I'm actually a little surprised that internet racists haven't balanced out the internet misogynists on this one; after all, the second in command on Steubenville's varsity rape team was a big black kid. Black guy, white girl, you'd think the slut shaming would be drowned out by the racial vitriol, but no. The one time racism could actually save the day, and it doesn't happen.

The internet really dropped the ball on this one

EvilHomer - 2013-03-19

Oh God, I just checked Chimpout, and even *they're* blaming the victim, in between the "typical predatory black rapist" commentary I was expecting. One example:

" Shoogafoot Jones-

I feel ice cold when thinking about the burner/sow here. I agree with the coaches. When this is the crowd you choose to party with, well expect to party. Those nigger's had every right taking their turns on a traitor bitch like this."

paranex - 2013-03-19

I actually think things are getting better. There was no social media feminist movement in the 90's at all. Nowadays you've got several major feminist websites and communities, and they've done a pretty good job at exposing people to ideas like rape culture and intersectionality. Hell, the only reason we even know about these tweets is because someone on Tumblr collected them and posted them.

Trust me, the days when people had Geocities instead of Twitter were probably even worse, because all these horrible ideas would have been completely banal and unchallenged.

Bort - 2013-03-19

You may be right; a number of things are coming to a head of late. Gay marriage and overal LGBT rights have seen increasingly rapid acceptance, and I think it's got everything to do with the issues being argued right out in public. Same thing with racism and misogyny, which for the longest time many suspected were still a silent motive behind half our politics, but because people weren't being forthright about it it was difficult to confront. But now we're seeing a paroxysm of reactionary shitheadedness in the right wing, which is forcing people to see what they were really about all along. They're not winning over many converts. And in the evangelical community, it is considered a full-blown crisis that young folks are turning away from their churches over their obsession with homosexuality. Damn kids these days just don't think bigotry is fashionable.

Sudan no1 - 2013-03-19

In some way, I blame feminists for the "extra" misogyny. Their efforts are admirable, but simply by existing and speaking up they turn every internet man with "lady issues" into a blithering neanderthal.

Of course, feminists are still needed because this video represents what society is like by default.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-19

I think it's both. Raging misogynists are finding each other, and creating their own raging misogyinst culture. On the other hand, the rest of us are becoming more aware of the extent of it. I never really understood what misogyny is until I was exposed to rage-fueled woman-hating fucktards on the internet.

http://publicshaming.tumblr.com/post/45608534736/the-news-out- of-steubenville-today-is-a-small

Kudos to WHO WANTS DESSERT for providing the link in the description of the CNN video. I wanted to put some of the tweets in a video where everyone could see it.

badideasinaction - 2013-03-19

As everyone gets online, now every brand of jackass has enough people to form their own echo chamber.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-20

"In some way, I blame feminists for the "extra" misogyny. Their efforts are admirable, but simply by existing and speaking up they turn every internet man with "lady issues" into a blithering neanderthal."

If only so many groups could have just been told "hey, stop existing." That would've solved everything.

I really hope you were being sarcastic.

Bort - 2013-03-20

What's there to be sarcastic about? He's not saying they were wrong to speak up, only that one of the consequences was stirring up anger among shitheads. If the discussion is about why there are so many vocal shitheads these days (and it is), it's fair to answer the question.

Sudan no1 - 2013-03-20

of course I'm being sarcastic, I am blaming the idiots that overreact to feminists - see the gamerz' perpetual butthurt over Anita Sarkeesian.

chumbucket - 2013-03-19

That's right, no drunky no rapey. Great logic.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-19

I wonder how their views on taking advantage of the intoxicated would shift at even the slightest infraction against them when they're bombed out of their minds?

And I'm not talking rape. I'm thinking they should wake up with documents showing they've taken out hundreds of thousands of dollars in payday loans, signed over their car titles to a used vehicle charity, and converted to Scientology.

I mean, they seem to think whatever happens to someone when drunk is perfectly legal...

Shoebox Joe - 2013-03-19

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=90383

Don't worry Steubenville, OH. There's always a silver lining!

Adham Nu'man - 2013-03-19

Drop the bombs, let's start over.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-03-19

I agree, every girl that drinks should be violently gangraped. She is just asking for it! Those heroic young men were just doing their duty. And, they're on a team. They can't just let one guy do all the raping. That's not very good teamwork... and coach says that you have to back up your brothers in everything, even rape.

Quad9Damage - 2013-03-19

"Arbitrary number + drinking=FUCKING SLUT."

Not surprisingly, all of these people look exactly like I'd expect them to.

Koda Maja - 2013-03-19

Surprised at the number of women getting in on the victim-blaming.

Koda Maja - 2013-03-19

Also, the thing that gets me about a lot of the reaction to this case is not just that people are saying she 'deserved' it for being drunk, which in itself is an impressive and disgusting warp of logic... but all the people that are actively blaming her, saying it's partially her fault.

It's like they believe as soon as a woman is drunk and incapacitated she creates a magnetic dong field that any penis in its radius is powerless to resist.

Quad9Damage - 2013-03-20

Slut-shaming knows no gender. Even women's attitudes are poisoned by rape culture and ancient patriarchal ideologies.

Quad9Damage - 2013-03-20

So I'm not surprised in the least. Gals can peer over the the same types of douchey shades that bros and meatheads wear and say "Well, she should blame herself for getting drunk and becoming an open invitation!"

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

2:10 "Be responsible for your actions ladies, before your drunken decisions ruin innocent lives."

And that's from THEkayla_jeter, a woman.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

Kayla deleted her twitter, but google has her cached as: Former University of Tennessee Volleyball Member. #14

Thanks to Title IX, women can join the sports rape culture fraternity!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

For me, the biggest surprise is that "internet fucktards", is not an active tag!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

>>In some way, I blame feminists for the "extra" misogyny. Their efforts are admirable, but simply by existing and speaking up they turn every internet man with "lady issues" into a blithering neanderthal.

I'm going to ignore the "blaming the victim" logic here, because I honestly don't think you really meant it the way is comes off. they turn him into a blithering neanderthal so much as forcing him to revel himself as the blithering neanderthal he is.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

They don't turn him into a blithering neanderthal so much as forcing him to revel himself as the blithering neanderthal he is.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-20

There's a weird tendency of internet fucktards to condemn underage girls for being sexual. You see this in the Amanda Todd case. It's like they embrace the taboo against underage sex, but they don't understand it's because an underage girl can't be responsible. So they make the girl EXTRA responsible.
