This right here is fucking awesome and should have been on poetv proper.

Truly words can't describe how great I think this is. This is possibly THE best possible video for a Stooges song, and The Stooges are my favorite band.

Another 10 stars for the ending.

Thanks. I wasn't really happy with it, and now I feel much better. I'm going to try this again with another stooges song.

No way the editing is really tight and it works really well. Must have taken you a while... What do you use?

The only thing I was wondering is why you didn't stretch the picture to full screen, was the video quality too low?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-06

It's complicated, but I've been waiting for someone to ask.

The part that's full screen is edited directly. The part that isn't full screen was reconstituted from individual frames. I break the video up into individual numbered frames (JPGs), with Mplayer, and I use the command line or a shell script I wrote to create sequences.

A lot of the video is the tenth frame from ten different videos. You do that with the copy command to copy every tenth frame from ten directories into one big directory

cp video1/*1.jpg ~/main.video
cp video2/*2.jpg ~/main.video

etc.

I don't know if I could tell you how I wrote my strobe script, and you don't want to know. I take six sets of 100 frames, run the script, and it generates a directory with 3300 frames arranged in a back and forth strobe cut.

The part where Daniel seems to be running in circles was generated with the strobe script.

Another Example

When I have a directory of frames numbered in order, I use a slide show program called videoporama to turn the frames into a video that registers one frame per second. (these are all Linux programs) and then I use my editor, Kdenlive, to speed up the rate to 25 frames per second or more.

The frame ratio is slightly different for the reconstituted footage, and what you've noticed is how the editor compensates for that. I have to figure out how to fix that. I could always reconstitute the whole thing.

Cool.

For this particular video the frame rate worked very well IMO, but I can see how it might not work so well in other cases. In any event, good job, great video.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-06

Thanks again. You've convinced me to try at least one more songer/stooges vid.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-06

You know what? I've been downloading some great stooges footage. Fuck Daniel Songer, at least for now. My next Stooges video is gonna feature IGGY!!
