5 stars for all the great things this should be used for and all the horrible things it will actually be used for.

Old_Zircon - 2013-02-22

Also because it's a flying Segway.

jangbones - 2013-02-22

military applications are questionable, mostly because guy with jetpack is a slightly conspicuous target for small arms fire

there are a fuckload of Americans with 1) too much money, and 2) a desperate need for attention, so I suspect that we may be seeing the new Segway

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-02-22

Crowd control.. Reminds me of what this crazy guy I lived with would do in GTA San Andreas... Get the jet pack and dual uzis.. Then slowly fly down the streets of Las Venturas wiping out anyone in range, like some kind of vengeful god. (Also irl he was genuinely crazy)

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-02-22

Ask any helicopter pilot in L.A. You hear bullets pinging off the bottom of the chopper with nearly every flight.

Without some extra armor, anyone flying this thing would get shot out of the sky.

Why would the LAPD pop for this instead of a bunch of drones? It's far cheaper, you get more weapons platforms, and you don't have to pay some yahoo extra to fly the thing, especially when it rains.

nice, quiet, slim profile, whats not to like?

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-02-22

COBRAAAAAA!!!

CJH - 2013-02-22

hey guys you can put a deposit down for one of these babies for the low price of 100 grand! that price is not set btw and no one can have them until emission laws are relaxed enough to allow a generation of lazy fatties to putt putt thru the sky with a sports car engine on their back, but i'm sure its money well spent!

Those thrusters depend on the blades being as close as possible to the housing to generate maximum lift. the blades also look to be carbon fiber very strong and stiff but shatters if hit hard enough.

Gonna suck for the first riot control flying pig when someone throws a bag of steel ball bearings at those giant intake openings. Tip for the future anarchists; use BB sized bearings to get past potential screens and to increase odds of hitting the mark.

More advanced tactics; trailing streamer on each projectile to add chance engine will suck some in. Will also serve to clog screen if bearings are too big to get through. Use a simple spud gun to launch massive amounts or slingshots with large slings for sneak attacks.

The UAV supply delivery variant makes actual sense though. I'm sure DARPA will be jizzing money all over them for militarized variants

TheOtherCapnS - 2013-02-22

I want to live in a world where this happens.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-02-22

The best use of this thing I can think of is to strap your drunk, passed-out fellow rich partygoer into it, probably naked, set it to "slow glide over all major streets within 10 miles" and wait for the YouTube videos to roll in.

The Mothership - 2013-02-23

so who do I write the cheque to?

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-02-23

Cool but definitely evil. This DARPA type shit freaks me out.

RockBolt - 2013-02-23
