This was an excellent story. It's too bad the games didn't have a lot to offer apart from platform-jumping and block puzzles.

The original game (the Zelda clone) was fantastic. This game WAS the nosedive.

I had the Dreamcast version, which was especially terrible, because it used the same engine as the Playstation version with all its tricks to make it run well enough on that ancient hardware, except it ran at a full 60FPS with the worst dizzying non-perspective-correct visuals full of fixed-point rounding problems, and controls that were still going based on the full framerate. As a result it felt like it ran way too fast and was impossible to control, while causing terrible dizziness as well.

The hardware limitations of the Playstation actually improved the game. I remember when a friend asked me for a little help with one of the puzzles. He had the PC version of the game which had somewhat better graphics, but the increased draw distance robbed Nosgoth of its eerie foggy atmosphere.

Have you seen a little girl named Cheryl? Just turned six.

Yeah, on the plus side, the Dreamcast version at least had the same shitty draw distance. It's just that the speed tricks you could get away with on the PS1 and its ridiculously low-res (256x224?) low-framerate screen didn't work so well on the Dreamcast's much-higher-resolution locked-to-60-fps screen (and weren't necessary to begin with) - everything just swam around a lot more and it was way too smooth on top of that.

Here is Dreamcast footage that picks up at the end of this video.

The dreamcast version was rad as shit, if only the director didn't change companies.

This game was great. Tony Jay was great in it. Hell, Soul Reaver 2 wasn't bad either.

And then came Defiance...

FABIO - 2013-02-11

Wasn't SR2 the one where the end was Kain running out a door after a fight, you running after him, then cutting straight to credits?

Binro the Heretic - 2013-02-11

No, that was this game.

RockBolt - 2013-02-10

I enjoyed this one on PlayStation a whole lot, I think I never felt like finishing Soul Reaver 2 though

Disaster - 2013-02-10

I fucking loved this one and SR2 but after that it was awful. I wonder if they're ever going to finish it.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-02-11

Ow, my wings!

Binro the Heretic - 2013-02-11

"Don't worry. When we throw you into this lake of acid, you'll forget all about how much your wings hurt."

FABIO - 2013-02-12

WHY DON'T YOU TAKE THEM AND LEARN TO FLY AGAIN
