Asperger's, also known as "functional autism," is a pretty wide net. Bill Gates is an aspie. Edward Witten is something of an aspie. Most of the people who use this site probably would get some points on an autism test.

The functional part does not mean they are necessarily capable of understanding what their deeds mean or able to comprehend the harm they do to themselves or their family. Nor can they read the motivations of people around them intuitively. CWC can tie his shoes and respond to what people say to him in complete sentences, that's about as functional as he gets.
