He has to indoctrinate them against smart people, who might try to use their "facts" and "statistics" to try to trick them into believing that Obama wasn't born in Africa and that private ownership of assault weapons isn't the only thing standing between us and government prison camps.

It's not "the only thing, Xeno. Habeas corpus isn't the only thing standing between us and government prison camps, either, nor are free elections, freedom of the press, civilian oversight over the military, or requiring warrants for search and seizure. That doesn't mean that these things aren't still important for the functioning of a liberal society, or that we should be comfortable throwing them aside. Why does it have to be a packaged deal? Can't we think Alex Jones is a paranoid maniac AND acknowledge the fact that every empirical study done on the effects of Clinton's Federal Assault Weapons Ban has shown it to have had absolutely zero measurable impact on the rates and severity of violent crime? Do we really have to chose between the "terrorism" if Alex Jones, who thinks the government is on the verge of killing us with a zombie virus and will do so unless we buy Jones' books, and the "terrorism" of the pro-Obama pundits, who scream that our children will be brutally murdered by masked psychotics unless we support an arguably uncostitutional measure that's already been shown, by the best available empirical science, to be both unnecessary and ineffective?

I'd have more confidence if federal studies were allowed, too.

The NRA makes sure the CDC and law enforcement can't effectively gather data on gun deaths (make, model, demographics, etc.) or study them (which guns cause more deaths, under what circumstances, how available are they, etc.). Gee, you'd think they were afraid of facts or something.

That and the DHS had its funding cut to hell for investigating domestic terrorism.

Guns are how idiots maintain tyrannies. Gun = freedom is so fucked up a concept that you'd swear it was invented by British royalty before guns were even invented.

They've already destroyed the 4th amendment, might as well let them have a go at the 2nd amendment. The PATRIOT ACT, DHS and TSA were a great start but we really need more torture and assassinations of Americans, these are all good precedents. They'd just kill us with drones anyways so why bother even pretending like we'd resist an authoritarian government.

Some facts:

After the 1994 ban on assault weapons was enacted, the use of the banned weapons among criminal gangs went sharply down, in the US as well as Mexico.

Since the ban expired, their use has gone back up.

Guns that are easy for the public to acquire are easy for criminals to acquire.

The NRA could be fighting this tooth and nail for purely monetary reasons, and that is being largely ignored.

The reasons the NRA have for fighting being mostly monetary are still entirely to the side of why myself and many others fight to not have any more amendments eroded.

Let's remove the NRA from the equation then. Let's assume they are just out for money and can't be trusted beyond that. With them out of the picture, what signs have the government shown that they want to take away all your guns? Is there a non-NRA influenced source of data?

I find peoples support for gun control is inversely correlated to how much they want to shoot guns. So I guess I'm opposed to gun control legislation except when I'm in a good mood. Also they shouldn't keep the mentally ill from buying them, maybe a waiting period so incase you do something bad it will at least be well planned.
