Every sperm is sacred, every sperm is great, if a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate...

I know, right. That song went through my head when I heard the story on the radio. Some of the gun advocates seemed almost choked up as they were talking to the reporter about the guns being destroyed.

It's like they think guns are little people or something.

Do Catholics have to beg forgiveness for wet dreams?

The Mothership - 2013-01-10

I love the fact that the station's call sign is KGUN. Can't make that shit up.

Their "legal" argument is the police aren't allowed to destroy abandoned property and must sell the guns to a Federally-licensed firearms dealer.

I don't think trading property for a grocery card counts as "abandonment" though.

Also, NRA lobbyist Todd Ratner literally said if the law isn't on their side in this fight, they will change the law.

I almost forgot to mention there were apparently a bunch of gun nuts outside the buyback area offering to pay cash for the guns, but most people preferred to swap them for the grocery cards.

Couldn't the councilman just declare it a private exercise on his behalf, with assistance from private donations, and have them destroyed on his own behalf? Seems like the easy way out.

To be fair, guns are some of the last American-made products that aren't guaranteed to immediately break down and/or explode within 3-4 years of ownership. but hey, America finds a way.

Sanest Man Alive - 2013-01-10

Latest statement released by the NRA: BAWWWWWWWWWW!

I'll be glad if these buyback programs actually help to curb future gun violence, I really will, but I don't think the unhinged gun-hoarding "survivalists" like the Sandy Hook shooter's mom (i.e. the people who really shouldn't have assault rifles) will be swayed to give up a single damn thing to the gub'mint.

Vaidency - 2013-01-10

No, the most dangerous people won't voluntarily relinquish their guns, but most gun fatalities in the US aren't caused by survivalists who snap and go on a rampage.

These buyback programs get a lot of guns out of ordinary people's houses and, in doing so, prevent a lot of accidental shootings and suicides. (Annual fatalities of those two types are more than double the number of gun homicides in the US.)

bravely rated, gmork.

thanks!

I for one am appalled that a bunch of unwanted guns are being taken out of homes that do not have gun safes in the #1 city for larceny in the country.

Ocyrus - 2013-01-11

It is just gun dealers that want to buy guns at pennies on the Dollar to sell for massive profits. They want a piece of the big fat pie.
