Mostly submitted for the first few remarks.

We are doomed. I watched the first 45 seconds and he built a strawman out of bold visuals. Obviously that is good for getting elected, but not so good for the country.

wackyakmed - 2012-11-21

For the republican myth of a market-based efficiency of cost to be true for healthcare, what he claimed was absolutely true. There's plenty of evidence that socialist healthcare schemes provide more cost-effective healthcare, in fact, so the savings can't be based on that (even Cuba, which is an embargoed hellhole dictatorship, manages to do basic healthcare better than us through a socialized system). The only other place cost efficiency can come from is people getting less care.

Because tying medical care to market forces has worked so well. I do so enjoy getting health care from doctors who had to specialize in order to charge the huge fees needed to pay off their student loans and deal with insurance companies where the person approving the care I've paid monthly premiums for can decide their bonus just isn't big enough this year and deny my coverage on a whim.

I know conservatives hate everyone, but wanting to watch them drop like flies from simple medical conditions or be enslaved in debt if they decide they'd rather not die from a broken limb or the want of a medical regimen is assholishness of Olympic skill.

Straw men are built from straw, dummy.

memedumpster - 2012-11-21

I am fairly certain that "die you fucking not white piece of shit we all fucking hate you" IS the standard GOP health platform. It's only a strawman if it isn't true.

I guess you could say it's untrue in that Republicans would rather actually kill us in the streets than let us die slowly, but it's still solidly their plan B.

Republicans really are as inhuman as we pretend they are. It's okay to say it out loud, go on, say it with me... "humans exist which should not in defiance of all taught enlightened morality, they are called Republicans." Sorry, John Locke, you didn't see this shit coming.

memedumpster - 2012-11-21

You see? Paragraph three was a strawman based on the false premise of paragraph two, presented as an invalid segway from paragraph one.

Paragraph one is still, I argue, true.

I am so glad Grayson is back. I missed this guy.

fatatty - 2012-11-21

It's only barely a strawman. Their general idea is that if you can't afford insurance you shouldn't have it. It isn't a right, it's a privilege. They think that allowing everyone access to healthcare will lead to long waiting lines and rationing of care. What else can you take from that but they don't want universal healthcare and they think the poor should be the ones rationed to?

Not to mention the fact that this mentality is mirrored in their followers, who you might recall from the primary debates, cheered the idea of letting a man die who didn't have health insurance and got cancer.

Also that stunt was back in 2009 when he was already elected, and he lost his 2010 race, so no it wasn't good for getting elected.

Either way I'm glad to see him back as well. We need more Democrats with spines and balls and ovaries.

FABIO - 2012-11-21

Holy shit. Are you a teenager who just walked out of his first logic fallacy lesson of debate class?

We're in a mess BECAUSE more people don't go to extremes to point out the Republican end game strategy. Nuanced, polite debate has failed. The new strategy needs to be endlessly and bluntly pointing out what monsters they are until they're a historical footnote.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-11-21

I'm so glad we get at least 2 more years of Alan Grayson being awesome in congress.

HarrietTubmanPI - 2012-11-21

What these guys have said. Progressives need to stand up to this bullshit and tell conservatives they know what the facts are and that we are American, too. We need to say we have ideas that have worked in dozens of other countries and it's time the far right stepped out of their little boxes. Progressives are NOT as crazy as th far right, and if anything we aren't that far left of center. The problem is not the left, but the far right conservatives who do nothing but go further to the right.

Five for Grayson.
