This happened in Phoenix, I used to see that guy with the katana all the time in the Tempe area riding the buses / lightrail.

One time I was getting on a bus and the driver was hassling him about riding with the sword, driver called dispatch and they reassured him it was OK, and that they knew the guy personally. Looks like he finally had his day.

if this is phoenix like chocolate jesus says probably not, they have crazy lax weapon laws. i live in PA and there's officially no legal length limit to blade carry, so you could technically carry this and be following the letter of the law.
