Someone mentioned that they do well overseas. My theory is the less a movie needs dialog for you to figure out what's going on, the better it'll do in other countries. Does the translation suck? Who cares? It's like complaining about the dialog in a porno.

The audiences just want a spectacle.

Hehehe.

I don't really have a problem with people hating this fluff. I'm just a stickler for details with a lot of free time on my hands.

But, I don't want to disappoint! Someone espouse some ill-informed, misconceived plot points they heard from a banal online film reviewer or derived from their own short attention spans while sitting in the theatre in a foggy haze of booze and pot, and I'll offer up another 10 to 20 paragraphs.

I saw the first Resident Evil when I was living in Mexico. The only other people in the theater with me was a family of five, including a baby. Surprisingly, the children were all perfectly well-behaved during the film. However, right at the end, just before the credits started rolling, the baby soiled its diapers and filled the theater with an unbelievable stench.

So, all I remember from the Resident Evil films is the stink of baby poop, and I think that's the only appropriate way to think of them.

Now...now wait just a minute there, Caminante. You almost walked out the door before I gave you some stars.

I think the first film is an okay sci-fi/horror film. The story and production were small enough that plot holes mostly didn't have an opportunity to exist, some of the cinematography and sets are pleasant, and the acting gets the job done. There isn't that much wire fu, and the whole dog kick thing was actually impressive because Milla actually did it after several practice runs. And, maybe I should be embarrassed to admit this, but the score was nice.
