From Wikipedia:

"King himself described the film as a 'moron movie' and stated his intention to never direct again soon after.

In a 2002 interview with Tony Magistrale for the book Hollywood's Stephen King, King stated that he was 'coked out of [his] mind all through its production, and [he] really didn't know what [he] was doing.'"

And for all that, the green goblin semi is still iconic.

The irony is that everyone remembers this movie, and nobody remembers his version of The Shinning.

Toenails - 2012-09-06

Hey, I remember his version of the Shining!

That shit was bonkers! And what's even better is that King was proud of it.

Sounds like we need ourselves a Steven King Appreciation Week.

Old_Zircon - 2012-09-06

King's nuts, this movie is a masterpiece.

Zaku-sensei - 2012-09-06

I will always love this dumb movie, especially the soviet super weapon non-ending.

It's got its charms, and as a child of the first-gen Transformers cartoon, I had no problem accepting "living" cars. I just wondered how the walkman and hair dryers managed to get animated cords with which to attack their users. I mean, okay, a walkman has batteries to run off of, but if a hair dryer yanks itself out of the wall, wouldn't that kill it?

Or am I putting more thought and less cocaine into this than King did?

An AC/DC music delivery device.

I honestly never thought this movie was that bad. It's entertaining and I think fairly well directed for someone who'd never done any real filmmaking. And, whatever shortcomings this movie has, it's still way better then the shitty version that was made years later as some sci-fi channel movie or whatever.

I think it also needs to be said that this film is impeccably cast. Anyone who's read a good deal of King's books (especially his older to mid-period stuff) knows that he is all about characters. He creates some of the best characters in literature, I think, regardless of the overall quality of the story, and this movie just does Stephen King characters PERFECT. The only other movie I can think of that gets King characters that right would be Christine, despite being a weak film.

memedumpster - 2012-09-06

The Dark Half movie nailed the book down, imso.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-09-06

This movie is unbelievably better than the sum of its parts.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-09-06

This was a great stupid movie. It shouldn't work, but somehow it does.
