No, I think he's right. At least Star Wars prequels can be enjoyed on an ironic level.

The Star Wars prequels came from the guy who created the original Star Wars movies. They are a tragic story of a man who became an isolated megalomaniac convinced he could duplicate his unfathomable previous success, failed in spectacular fashion, and now lives bitter, resentful, and spiteful, trying to repair his permanently damaged ego. Those movies aren't evil.

This was created by a team of soulless Hollywood producers according to formulas they created to maximize success. At no point did anyone in a position of influence with this have anything remotely resembling a spark of inspiriation. The scope, obviously, is far smaller than the prequels, but this movie is pure evil.

A Christmas story is loved because it was a total flop during it's time, and was therefore cheap enough for pretty much any TV station to to buy the rights to run it constantly during the holidays, causing an entire generation of kids to grow up having fond memories of it being on TV when they were little. Also it's not a bad movie.


THIS HOWEVER is a nightmare spawned by people who hated the movie growing up.

Where does "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss" fit into all of this?

Well, if you've ever read "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories: And other Disasters" by Jean Shepherd, you'd notice that this particular movie is a compilation of most of Shep's childhood stories from the book EXCEPT the Ollie Hopnoodle story. Thankfully PBS actually did a TV movie of Ollie Hopnoodle's haven of Bliss, and I thought it was great.

I always liked Shepherd's stories about when he started dating, like when he tried dating a rich girl, when he dated a Polish/Jew from chicago and was afraid he'd be entrapped and have his life ruined like this one gas station attendant he knew, and his senior prom with Wanda Hickey. All of which, spoiler alert, ended in comedic disaster. : D

I remember that movie, and I can understand why a lot of people would like to sweep "My Summer Story" under the rug of time's oblivion. Still, IT'S THE SEQUEL.

I will concede that it is indeed the sequel.

I think PBS did a much better job though.

Also the storyline in Ollie Hopnoofdle of Ralphie, Flick and Swartz's first job lugging fridges up 40 flights of stairs step by miserable step friggin kills me.

The writers and studio probably wanted to wait until Jean Shepherd was good and dead before they tried to pull this shit.
