5 stars, are you kidding about anything less?

5 stars for this movie. This thing brought so much more joy into my world for just knowing Klaus Nomi existed.

I found out about Klaus back in middle school when my brother made me a mix tape with his cover of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". Later a friend brought me one of his records back from France. It was all so strange and interesting. It was even later that I read about how horrible his death was via the internet, but seeing this film a few years ago really added a lot to that story. What a sad and lonely way to go.

He hould have been a bigger star

I think the bit fifty minutes in explains why he wasn't. I agree totally, though.

Saw this in a tiny theater and was floored when the guy from his original band denounced the URGH footage as "slick." I'd never thought of it, but he was totally right.

Two undeniable facts: NY in the really-early 80s was an amazing attempt at new popular culture, and Nomi deserved a lot better than he got in the end.

Urgh is general is a mixed bag. It's cool to see such clear footage of so many good bands but the context they're filmed in is completely unrepresentative and usually doesn't show them at their best by any stretch of the imagination.
