So her real voice isn't like that, right? That's her Adam Sandler-schtick "funny" voice?

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-07-17 Yeah this exactly what its like in NYC too. Also I have painfully experienced this bizarre jewess sex ritual.

I wonder if she'd go through with it.
Doug is looking rougher than Sugar Slam lately.

OMFG I HAVE A VAGINA LOOK AT ME isn't comedy, and it sucks that with so many genuinely funny, talented women out there, someone like Sarah Silverman is one of the most well known.
So stars for evil.
|
catpenis27 - 2012-07-17 I may be way out of the loop on female comedy, but it seems like it's Sarah Silverman and only a handful of others like Phyllis Diller that have ultimately escaped having to make jokes exclusively about the men they've fucked or their periods.

Adham Nu'man - 2012-07-17 Yeah I don't really like Sarah Silverman and this wasn't funny, but I really don't see how this is relevant to her being a woman when male comedians have done this same bit many times before (fortunately I didn't have to watch Doug Stanhope in a thong writhing on a couch though).
|
Old_Zircon - 2012-07-17 Because the material and her delivery of it specifically make it about her being a woman and that's the whole problem.
If this were actually about Adelson (and it could be made so without even changing the text of it, just the performance) that would be fine, but it isn't. This is the standup version of http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=94085 plain and simple. The issue isn't that she's a woman, or that this bit is overtly sexual, it's that the entire meat of it is "OMG I'M A WOMAN BEING OVERTLY SEXUAL" which sells tickets/downloads/however comedians make money these days but doesn't mean the comedy's actually good.
Men making penis jokes is a different thing (although generally just as lazy) because the social context for men's bodies and sexuality is completely different. When male comedians joke about their penises onstage I highly doubt that a side effect of that is keeping themselves eroticized in the minds of their female fanbase in order to maintain and increase it. Which is what Sarah Silverman seems to be doing (probably unintentionally but still pervasively throughout almost all of the original material I've seen her do). Male comedians making penis jokes are still usually being lazy but in a different way.

Old_Zircon - 2012-07-17 Hopefully that gets my point across. I've been in bed sick for four days and have hardly eaten that whole time, so it's hard to focus on what I'm writing, but I think I managed to clarify my original point.

|
aikimoe - 2012-07-17 No one could reasonably argue with anyone who didn't find this (or anything else) funny, but most professional comics would really like it if people who were never, ever paid to make other people laugh would shut the fuck up about what is or isn't "good comedy."

GongWise - 2012-07-17 Old Zircon is right and he should've dropped more than just one star.

spikestoyiu - 2012-07-18 GUYS SITCOMS AREN'T FUNNY NOT EVEN THE ONES YOU LIKE. NOTHING IS FUNNY.
Sarah's standup stinks on ice, but the "Sarah Silverman Program" was great. Probably because she only wrote a portion of it.
