My first "PC" was the original Atari 800 not the fancy shmansy XL. Then all my snobby friends got Amigas.

Coco! I was too young/poor when all those plastic console computers were a hit, but I went on a buying spree in my high school days and got a few TI 94/As, Cocos, etc.

My first PC was a Commodore Vic 20 with a datasette. A guy my dad knew from work had purchased a big RV and the computer came free with the package. He had no use for it and, knowing I was a nerdy kid into tech stuff, gave it to my dad.

Early PC magazines came with all sorts of productivity/entertainment software written in BASIC. I spent many late nights tapping in lines of code so I could play cheesy little games.

After a little over a year of saving up lawn mowing profits, birthday money and Christmas money, my mom & dad helped me buy a Commodore 128 and a 1571 5 1/4" floppy disk drive. The computer spent most of its time in 64 emulation mode playing games like M.U.L.E., Telengard, Archon, Bop 'n' Rumble, Phantasie, The Bard's Tale and the Infocom Text adventures.

I taught myself BASIC and hexadecimal machine language and programmed a few games, none of which were that great.

If computers hadn't come along, I'd probably be one of those guys who's really into building his scale model railroad, complete with a little scale model town surrounding it.
