A Vector masterpiece. When I worked at Seaside Heights NJ boardwalk during the summers at the Carousel Amusement Center back in the mid to late 90's, our Arcade mechanic lovingly restored the Vector Starwars machine that's still there. I spent most of my breaks parked in front of that bastard.

Depending on the display quality and/or settings, you should have been able to read "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU" spelled out with the connected dots on the surface of the Death Star as you approached. There might have been other messages, but I never noticed.

fedex - 2012-04-07 yeah you can see it in this video if you freeze it at the right frame

Yeah, this was a great game. When it originally came out, there was a version inside a sit-down kiosk with a kickin' stereo sound system attached. (I think it was just a conversion of the older Red Baron sit-in kiosks).

I remember standing on telephone books to play this game as a toddler living on an Air Force base.

Loved this game. If I recall I remember being able to fly the tower section without ever firing a shot; if you were careful you could just dodge all the fireballs and towers.

The Mothership - 2014-09-24 I also remember watching, rapt, some guy with a mustache who was about 20 or so - so about 8 years older than a 12yo me - absolutely own this game. I must have watched him for 40 minutes just going higher every level.
Aladdin's Castle, Vancouver Mall, 1991.

I had a version for my Commodore 64 that was very similar.

Played this last week at a retro arcade and it is still awesome. Guy playing it in the video makes it look easy though. Even on medium most people don't make it past the first batch of tie fighters.

Man, this game... It even entered my dreams at the time.
Also, in case you don't know, it is available for MAME.

Vector still looks better than modern 3d graphics to me.
