Actually you couldnt take photos/vids of dead US soldiers, everything else was cool.

There was a big scandal when someplace somewhere published a photo of two dead US soldiers laying face down, not bloody or anything.

There is supposed to be honor in battle. Soldiers are not supposed to be rage filled apes. They are warriors doing a job at the behest of their country and their people. If it a war of personal hatred then there is no end to it. Disrespecting a corpse like that is disrespecting the family, friends, culture and nation that person came from. Especially in an arena where we're supposed to be "winning hearts & minds", this is more than counterproductive.

I am okay with not being okay with peeing on corpses. I do realize that it sort of highlights the absurdity of war and et cetera but I just think that peeing on the bodies of the fallen is a gesture that should not be encouraged.

More than viewing this as an 'offense' though I think it's a pretty telling symptom of the mental malfunction in the American armed forces culture. This sort of thing is viewed as so normal it's on par with one of those videos where they dance to pop songs with their rifles. It speaks to what people paying attention already knew, that these guys are fucking nuts.

A friend of mine who was stationed in Iraq 5 or 6 years ago was given a CD-R with about 800 photos of dead Iraquis on it as a souvenir when he was done with that tour of duty. Lots of people got them.

Yes, my brother told me that the Iraqis on his ship, who were our allies, were incessantly made to feel horrible by many of his coworkers. He confronted them about it but this is just the kind of insanity that war creates. Most people in the armed forces are just trying to do their jobs and get home in one piece.

The issue is the default attitude that every death over there is justified with people cheering at drone camera footage like it was the super bowl. Yes corpse pissing is awful by itself, but it's fucking absurd how the same public outraged over this will gladly write off missile strikes on weddings.

And am I the only one who thinks the marines are the absolute worst branch to use for hearts and minds occupation?
