Gotta say, he has a point on drugs. Legalize the drug, and you instantly save potentially billions of dollars and you allow for businesses to get in on the act and produce cheaper, possibly safer versions of the drugs. Then all the street dealers go out of business for the most part. At that point, taxes can be levied against the product and ear marked towards education and prevention programs. Will it eliminate 'the scourge of the American middle class'? No, but I would argue that the War on Drugs has been just as bad for our country in terms of jail expenses hurting future employment of your average pothead who got caught.

Legalize the drug and the military-industrial complex must find a way to sell the leftover military grade weapons they have up until now been selling to law enforcement. They'll have to find a way to use it, and they've got two options: manufacture a few more land wars, dooming us all, or focus their attention on us, dooming us all.

Is it worth your puff, smokey magoo?

@ cognitivedissonance,

The war on drugs has little bearing on the fact that we are a nation of war junkies. We simply can't imagine not bombing the hell out of Muslims. I lay you money that we're stuck in Afghanistan beyond 2014.

Screwtape - 2011-12-18

I think you meant that: legalize drugs and you eliminate the direct and indirect funding of the CIA and other clandestine operations. Drugs are used to BUY surplus weaponry, not as a supply mechanism.

Legalizing drugs is a great idea and all, but people like Ron Paul and most other libertarian people have about the dumbest ideas about drug legislation known to man. See, people like Paul want the government to completely out of drug regulation, period, whether it's for medical purposes or just getting high or whatever. The FDA is some kind of communist/nazi/hell brigade out to prevent you from putting WHATEVER YOU WANT into your body, maaaan! Oh, and also, it's none of the government's business if some tard wants to tell you that eating raw carrots will CURE CANCER and then sell you the "special" carrots for 5 times their normal cost! That's between you and your god! And if people die, oh well..the FREE MARKET WILL TAKE CARE OF IT.
Oh, and ask people like Ron Paul what's supposed to happen if, say, a drug pusher gets your kid to try crack or something at school. Phht..ain't the government's business! Instead of drug laws, you yourself need to find out who the dealer was and then you can SUE THEM! That's right! Sue the pants right off the drug dealer!

I agree with the above, Paul's quite naive. In this screaming match he says "there was no drug laws in the 19th century!"

That's pretty much all it boils down to with Paul. Let's go back to child labor laws, ravaging the environment, and drinking radium water to cure what ails you. You know, "the good old days."

You can have five more if you find a video of Paul on Wally George.

I find this strangely soothing.

Was there a lot of shouting in your house growing up?

I don't know how or WHY Morton Downey Jr got so popular. I just remember flipping past his show while switching channels and usually being aghast at what I saw.

And I seem to recall he faked an assault to boost his ratings?

He drew swastikas on his face in a public men's room.
