No white people tag?

Scynne - 2011-11-05

They say "axe" instead of "ask." People do that. Real people. I don't even know about life anymore.

baleen - 2011-11-05

That's because for centuries ask was spelled "akse," and probably pronounced that way as well. There are remote parts of Scotland where people still pronounce it as axe. Jamaicans do as well. It has to do with how segregated English speaking populations were, and at what times they were segregated.

P.S. the process by which consonants are switched in common words over time ("aks" to "ask") is called metathesis. Another examepl is white people commonly saying "asteriks" instead of "asterix." This is more "incorrect" than black people saying aks, because at least asterix has always been spelled and said this way in English.

"Show me."

"Show you the allegations?"

"Yeah!"

"Oh... Okay."

I can't wait for the day the " lawsuit" tag is linked.
